Staying healthy with the use of nutrition is very important and really pretty simple. As my buddy Hippocrates, the “Father of Medicine”, once said,“Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food”.
Adding herbs and spices to food offers so many medicinal benefits and best of all they add pops of fresh and unique flavors to your meals. One of my favorite spices (I could never actually choose just one) is Turmeric. The list of health benefits associated with turmeric will amaze you.
Turmeric has so many wonderful healing powers and is so safe to use. This is a definitely a spice I use daily and rave about to everyone I know. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to add it to every meal, so I do use a supplement as a substitute on days I do not cook with it.

What Makes Turmeric So Special?
Compounds are known as Curcuminoids, the most important of which is curcumin.
Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has very powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.
However, curcumin is poorly absorbed into the bodies bloodstream on its own. In order for your body to absorb it properly, it needs black pepper or a fat to attach to.

3 Ways to Add Turmeric to Your Daily Diet
Add it to your food either using a “Good” Organic powder or by grinding down the Root.
- Most Grocery stores will sell the root in the produce section.
- Add it to your Smoothies, or other Daily Drinks, Eggs, Soups, Sauces, or Vegetables (just make sure to use good olive oil when sauteing because it needs a fat for you to absorb it properly) or put it in fatty meat like meatloaf. This is one of my favorite ways to consume it.
- Be very careful when cooking with turmeric the bright orange powder will stain anything it touches, including your Bullet Blender.

Precautions and Warnings
There are minimal to no side effects for most who use Turmeric. It can cause dehydration.
- However, If you are pregnant do not take medicinal amounts of Turmeric, small amounts found in food will not hurt you. Medicinal amounts can cause menstrual cycles to occur.
- If you have Gallbladder issues, turmeric is good for the gallbladder but it will cause extra pain if you already have gallstones.
- If you take Blood Thinners do not use Turmeric, it may slow blood clotting.
